The Christie/HeSMO
International Fellowship Programme

The Board of Directors of the Hellenic Society of Medical Oncology (HeSMO), in line with its mission to strengthen specialization and international training opportunities in Oncology, is pleased to announce the 2026 international fellowship programme in collaboration with The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

At its meeting on 11 July 2025, the Board approved the financial support of a one-year Fellowship Abroad, entitled “The Christie/HeSMO International Fellowship Programme.”

The programme will be co-funded by HeSMO and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, reflecting the joint commitment of both institutions to foster excellence in oncology training. The fellowship offers an annual salary in the range of £52,656 - £73,992, with the final amount determined according to the candidate’s level of experience and agreed in consultation with The Christie team.

The granting of HeSMO scholarships addresses the financial needs of young scientists seeking training at well-known international centers in the field of clinical or laboratory oncology. In this case, one [1] member of HeSMO and/ or HeGYO will be chosen through a two-step selection process to receive one year [12 months] of employment and training at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in England, with the opportunity to specialize in a wide range of fields.

All positions within The Christie are subject to a successful interview and the receipt of satisfactory written references, medical clearance, and evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.

The two-step selection process includes an initial evaluation of all candidates’ applications by the HeSMO Evaluation Committee (ΕΕΚΥΥ), followed by an online interview conducted by representatives from The Christie and HeSMO.

The interviews are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 24 November 2025, during the following time slots:

• 09:00 - 11:00 (GMT), [11:00-13:00 EET]
• 13:00 - 16:00 (GMT), [15:00-18:00 EET]

Please note: The commitment of the selected fellow to return to Greece and contribute their acquired expertise to the Greek oncology community will be positively taken into account during the evaluation process.

The Christie Teams available to host the 12-month Fellowship include:

• Experimental Cancer Medicine Team (Phase I) and Advanced Immunotherapy and Cell Therapy Team
• Renal
• Sarcoma and germ cell
• Breast
• Upper GI/NET
• Gynae
• HPB/NET
• Melanoma
• Lower GI
• Lung
• Lymphoma

Applicants are kindly requested to select three [3] disease teams from the list above in order of preference.

All required supporting documents must be sent to HeSMO by completing and submitting the “New Scholarship Application form” online, available through the HeSMO website at: www.hesmo.gr, no later than 10/11/2025, at 15:00 (ATH Local time).

Please note: No extensions will be granted. Each candidate’s application must be complete, with all supporting documents submitted by the deadline.
